The Country Club of Sapphire Valley
Known as “THE” event of the season on the Plateau, the Cashiers Designer Showhouse Opening Night Party is not to be missed. Join the Cashiers Historical Society and Host Drew English as we collectively celebrate the official and opening night of the 2024 Cashiers Designer Showhouse. To celebrate our 27th year of Showhouse, CHS is throwing a Ball, a Black and White Ball! In 1966, famed author, socialite, and creative eccentric Truman Capote hosted his now infamous “Black and White Ball” in the ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The Country Club of Sapphire Valley will transform its ballroom into a swinging 60s venue, complete with a mod extravaganza of delectable cuisine, copious martinis, spirits, and an overall swinging good time! Attending guests are encouraged to incorporate the Black and White theme into their attire. So, don your white dinner gloves, black-tie, and dinner jacket, or come dressed to impress in your own bitonal fashion! Black or white, we’ll dance the night away to the sounds of “Steel Toe Stiletto,” one of the Carolinas’ premiere party bands! Tickets are available only through Sponsorship and select Benefactor packages. All proceeds benefit the Cashiers Historical Society.

Oconee Bell Chapter of the NC Native Plant Society
Sunday, August 25, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
The Village Green
Join famed Landscape Architect Mary Palmer Dargan, Arielle McIntyre, and Dr. Nancy Pelaez Anderson to talk about cultivating the spirit of your landscape. They will discuss how anyone can use plants to make an outdoor space more beautiful, easier to care for, and better for wildlife, whether you have a shady or an open yard, a slope that needs erosion control, or a deck space or small balcony. This lively seminar will explore landscape designs that provide safe havens for the birds and wildlife that we love. Food and shelter are needed for our favorite regular birds, as well as pit stops for seasonal and migratory wildlife visitors. By working with nature to design a dynamic landscape for our bioregion, the speakers will demonstrate how they edit an existing landscape and consider working with nature to create a successful plateau or high-elevation landscape. Knowing what to keep, what to remediate, and what to get rid of, the speakers will address typical problems and offer some design solutions based on naturalistic planting to make your landscape fit the spirit of your home. Free event open to the public.
